Membership Benefits

Being a member of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is incredibly beneficial because it provides access to a powerful network of like-minded individuals who are committed to academic excellence, professional development, and community impact. NSBE offers opportunities for mentorship, leadership training, career advancement, and scholarships, helping members grow both personally and professionally. Through conferences, workshops, and networking events, members connect with industry leaders, gain exposure to internships and job opportunities, and develop skills that set them apart in the engineering field. Most importantly, NSBE creates a supportive space that empowers Black engineers to thrive and make a lasting impact in their communities and industries.

How do I get involved?

There are many ways to get involved in the school's chapter. You can start by attending general body meetings to stay updated on events, opportunities, and initiatives the chapter is working on. Joining a committee—such as Programs, Finance, or Membership—allows you to contribute directly to planning events, managing resources, or recruiting new members. Volunteering at outreach events, study sessions, or campus programs is a great way to stay active and build connections with other members. You can also take your involvement to the next level by running for an executive board position or representing your chapter at regional and national conferences. No matter your level of experience, there’s always a place to grow, lead, and make a difference within NSBE!

When and Where?

The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) chapter at our school stays active and engaged through a variety of weekly events and opportunities. We host general body meetings every week where members can connect, stay informed on upcoming events, and hear from guest speakers or industry professionals. To support academic success, we also offer study tables twice a week, providing a focused and collaborative environment for students to work together, get help with coursework, and prepare for exams. In addition to academic and professional development, we prioritize community involvement through regular volunteering events, allowing members to give back and make a positive impact on and off campus. These activities make it easy for members to stay involved, grow their network, and build lasting connections.

What are the benefits?

Getting involved in the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) chapter at our school offers a wide range of benefits that go beyond the classroom. By actively participating, members gain access to academic support through study tables, leadership experience through committee work or executive roles, and career-building opportunities like networking events, resume workshops, and internship connections. NSBE also provides a strong sense of community and belonging, allowing students to connect with peers who share similar goals and experiences. Through volunteering and outreach, members develop a deeper connection to their campus and local community.

Beyond academics and career development, NSBE fosters a strong sense of community and cultural empowerment, allowing students to connect with others who share similar backgrounds, goals, and values. Volunteering events and outreach programs also give members the chance to give back, serve as role models, and make a meaningful impact on both campus and the surrounding community. Overall, NSBE equips students with the tools, support, and experiences they need to thrive in college and succeed in their future careers.

Upcoming Engagement

The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) chapter is excited to announce two major upcoming events that showcase the strength, unity, and commitment of our organization—our annual Chapter Banquet and our highly anticipated "NSBE Week." Our chapter's "NSBE Week" is a dynamic week-long series of events that reflect the pillars of our mission: academic excellence, professional development, and community service. Throughout the week, we’ll host a variety of engaging activities including pizza sales, our "Chicago Candy Store", pie a NSBE member, and other fun events. NSBE Week is more than just a celebration—it’s a chance for members to grow, connect, and lead. We invite all students, faculty, alumni, and supporters to join us in making these events memorable and joyful as we continue to uplift one another and carry out the NSBE mission!

Following at the end of our "NSBE Week" we will be hosting our annual chapter banquet, which is a formal event where we will come together to celebrate our accomplishments over the past year, recognize the dedication and hard work of our members, and honor the graduating seniors and executive board for their service. It’s a time for reflection, connection, and inspiration as we highlight the milestones we’ve reached and set our sights on the future.
